December 2008

I had a great flight, even though my neighbor was chatty. She amused me, so it was good. Turns out she read Twilight and passed them on to her daughter who is now a huge fan. Yep, this conversation started because I pulled out my book. I’m reading for the fourth time and I only just discovered Twilight this year. I’m beginning to wonder if there might not really be something to the term Textually Transmitted Disease. So, yeah, good flight…

The best part of the flight was getting in 30 minutes early and then my bag coming up just as I walked up to the carousel. How fortuitous! Mom drove us home and I took a nice nap. Once again I got just three hours sleep before my flight. I really must stop doing this. I don’t always get to nap like I did today. I woke up from my nap to find dinner ready and my nieces and nephew ready to eat with me and Mom. But wait, there’s more–Birthday cake! My Mom made me a Belated Birthday Cake. Creme de Menthe Cake–my favorite! We had a blast screaming Happy Birthday at the top of our lungs. Yep, I sang to myself.

After that, Mom and I were off to Uncle J’s. I’m happy to report he’s doing quite well after last month’s quadruple bypass surgery. What a relief to finally see him for myself and give him a hug.

I’m now back in Waterford, WI. The thermometer on the car said 9°F on the way home from dropping Mom off in Antioch, IL to stay with Uncle J. Yes, nine degrees. That’s cold to anyone out here, not just to this Phoenix Girl. When did I become a Phoenix Girl? Must be some time this year. I’ve been there for 10 years now. Does something mystical happen at 10 years. Do you go native at that point? However it happened, whenever it happened, I’ll be sleeping with socks on for the next 10 days.

Tomorrow I meet a friend from high school I haven’t seen in about 20 years. That will be fun. I’m looking forward to it. Thanks, Facebook, for making this possible.

Hmm…to stay up and blog while watching DS9 or go to bed before 2a? I think we know the answer to that. Tag Surfing it is!

Ok, so MTV had Twilight Tuesdays. I vote they now have New Moon on Monday. Good luck getting that one out of your head. 🙂

If you read my Twilighters Reunite post, you know that there was a push to break records on the original opening day of Twilight. I can report that Friday, December 12, 2008, Twilight had a good turn out at the Harkins in Tempe Marketplace. I’ve seen the movie five times now. There were more people at this showing than any other showing I’ve been to, including the midnight show. The theater was packed. It was good to see, even if a lot of them did laugh just a little too hard…at everything. Anyway, well done, Twilighters. BoxOffice.com reports $8M so far this weekend for Twilight, putting it in 3rd place behind The Day The Earth Stood Still ($31M) and Four Christmases ($10.2M).

My friend Erika was there with me and she noticed something that neither of us noticed before. Victoria was at Prom. I mean I know we see her at the end, but she was in the shot when Edward and Bella first walked inside, to where the dance was. You can see her two or three times milling around with the other students, just feet from Edward and Bella. We all know that Edward can read everyone’s thoughts except Bella’s so, why isn’t Edward, who is prone to over-reacting, freaking out? And why isn’t the student body mouring the loss of a fellow student? Where else would Victoria have gotten that Prom dress and the jewelry? She was wearing Waylon’s shirt earlier in the movie, so this seems to be her MO.

Unlike MTV, I understand that there are spoilers in their article. I’m moving this conversation to my Twilight page.

The Christmas season is upon us. Here’s a little humor from YouTube to brighten your day: The Twilight Before Christmas.

Star Wars fans tried something like this with The Phantom Menace. The Twilight Moms’ idea has spread to other sites in an attempt to break records. It didn’t work with Star Wars. It would be nice to see it work once.

So the other day Crystal asked me if I’d heard of this 2012 movie. I said that I had and shuddered. She asked if it was scary. I said that it would be to me. She didn’t know about the Mayan Long Count, so I told her it’s the most accurate calendar ever created and that it ends on December 21, 2012. It’s not the only thing prophesying the end of the world on that particular date either, by the way, so yeah it freaks me out a little.

Later in the day for no apparent reason:

Random: OOH! I wonder what day of the week December 21, 2012 falls on.

Me: Is that your 10- or 20-year planner? (We recently received one of each from vendors visiting the office)

Random: 20.

Me: Nice.

Random: Friday. The world will end on a Friday.

Me: Is it a payday?

Random: OOH! (rustling pages, furious counting)

Me: Are you circling all the paydays between now and the end of the world?

Random: I’m trying to do it without circling. If I lose my place I’m doomed.

Me: Oh.

Random: No. It’s not a payday.

Me: Too bad.

Random: Doesn’t matter. Everyone knows the world will end on Thursday.
