That’s, what, 50 searches for you in 2 days? Nice. And someone wants to see you naked. Not that I wouldn’t want to see you naked, but I swear that search wasn’t me. Yeah, I don’t know what’s up with all the cats all of the sudden either. And funny sleeping animals? Who knows! I’m kinda delighted that someone found me be searching for Quileute people and for Reese’s Dracula commercial.

Quileute Cutie

Quileute Cutie

I posted about my Phoenix (New Moon) casting call experience a while back, and then revisted it. I wondered if the “Quileute Cutie” weren’t none other than Kiowa Gordon, who we will see as Embry Call in New Moon. According to USAToday Kiowa is from Peach Springs AZ. I wonder if I might have actually been in the same room as him (even if that isn’t a picture of the pre-buff Kiowa). For that matter Alex Meraz, who will play Paul, is apparently from Mesa AZ, where I have lived for the last 10 years. Hello, fellow Mesan! I wonder if you were also at the Phoenix casting call when I was there. If you saw a crazed white girl taking pics from just inside the door, that was me. I hope I didn’t annoying you while you were going over your lines or anything. If I did, sorry. It worked out for the best though, right?

I just updated my post on my casting call experience with photos altered long ago by Letters to Twilight (thanks again girls). While I was there I checked to see if I saw any familiar faces. I want to believe that Kiowa Gordon (Embry Call) is the Quileute Cutie I posted a picture of, but alas I am afraid not. If only it weren’t so blurry and I could find out where he auditioned, maybe I could get to sleep.

BTW, has anyone else noticed this about IMDB’s listing on New Moon?

Chaske Spencer Lakota
Tyson Houseman Quil Ateara
Kiowa Gordon Hualapai

Tribe names instead of character names for Chaske and Kiowa?

Just in case you don’t get to see this on Letters to Twilight right away, here is a description of my Phoenix New Moon Casting Call (there’s still time tomorrow if you want to audition!).

I was fortunate enough to sneak a peek at the Phoenix casting call for New Moon. My friends Erika and Lisa (fellow Twilighters) were happy to keep me company on the journey. Erika even used her Mistress voice on me to make me go inside the building by myself. You can thank her for the pictures I took inside, really. I wasn’t sure I would be allowed, being as gringa as they come. Everyone was very nice, and I really didn’t even get any looks for being there, even though I clearly didn’t fit the description of the casting call. I brought my real camera, so I guess that explained why I was there.

Registration took place in the lobby of the Phoenix Indian Center. It seemed pretty well organized. They seemed to be directing people very well for minimum confusion. It’s a smallish lobby and when I got there, there were about 100 people crammed into it. The people running the show were calling people in groups by age. I have no idea how many people were already back there auditioning. The atmosphere in the lobby was tense. I don’t know why, but I expected a sort of fangirl SQUEE. Nope, there was very quiet murmur considering the number of people. I didn’t see anyone practicing their lines or anything, unless they were doing it silently. Most people were talking to a buddy quietly. I didn’t feel free to walk around because it was so cramped, and because the mood clearly said, “Don’t bother anyone.” I took what pictures I could around the door where the light was best. It was pretty dark in there and I didn’t want to bother anyone with my flash.

The first picture I’m sending is of the doors. You can see that people are pressed up against the glass. It really was that crowded in there. If you look on the left side of the doors you’ll see a reflection of a woman in a bluish top and black pants. That’s Celene, a Twilight Mom. She was very nice and made us gringas feel right at home. She was waiting for a friend and fellow Twilight Mom to arrive. I didn’t get the friend’s name but when she arrived she told us her best hope for Seth was in the emergency room. I hope he’s OK!

I spy a Twilight Mom!

I came across a posting on lion_lamb @LiveJournal. I wasn’t able to post a comment there, so I’ll just post it here.

I do wonder how they’re going to find Indian guys in Phoenix – Phoenix is divided between Mexican and American, basically. I live only half an hour away from Phoenix. But, since I do fit age requirements, I won’t show up. 😀

Here is my reply:

I also live in the Phoenix area, and I can tell you Phoenix has a very large Native American population. They are the ones who own the reservation land the state rents for freeways. And you know all those casinso? They run those, too. California’s population is larger, but I assume they’ve exhausted that possibility already so are moving on to other populations. Phoenix, being in the next most populated county for Native Americans, is perfect for casting, especially if they are looking for unknowns. According to Indianz.com :

“As of July 2004, California had the largest American Indian and Alaska Native population. According to the Census, 687,400 Native Americans live in the Golden State. There are over 100 federally recognized tribes in California.

Oklahoma came in a distant second, with 398,200 Native Americans. The state is home to almost 40 federally recognized tribes.

Arizona (234,200), Texas (248,300) and New Mexico (207,400) rounded out the top five. New York (183,400), Washington (165,400), North Carolina (142,000), Florida (140,600) and Michigan (124,100) completed the top 10.

The Census Bureau also broke down the results by counties with populations of at least 1 million. Not surprisingly, Los Angeles County had the largest Native American population, with 153,500 living there.

Maricopa County, Arizona, which includes the city of Phoenix and several tribes, ranked second with a Native population of 91,500. The county also registered the largest numerical increase between 2003 and 2004, according to the Census. “

Good luck to the casting crew in Phoenix today and tomorrow.  And to all you hopefuls out there, Break A Leg! I can’t wait to see you on the big screen.
